Leavenworth

Leavenworth Street runs east and west through the middle of the Leavenworth community with its east boundaries at I-480 and its west boundaries at 36 th Street. Many homes in the area were large two stories, built in the early 1900’s.  While some are still single family residences, many have been converted to apartments to serve employees of the downtown, midtown, and Med Center areas.  With the development of Mid Town Crossing, a high-end shopping and entertainment center a few blocks south of Dodge Street, many of the apartments and single family dwellings have been gutted and remodeled to compete with luxurious apartments and condos built as part of its core.  In the area south of Leavenworth there are conversions but also many well-maintained single family homes.  Popular with families who have generational bonds to the area, there are several public and parochial schools as well as many churches with ethnic ties.  Price points reflect the diversity of style, age, and location of homes in the area and range from over one million dollars for new condos in Mid Town Crossing to seventy-five thousand for smaller homes and condos in other areas. “To promote the Leavenworth Area, provide educational programs on community safety and needs of people, provide programs for ongoing development of public areas, and to preserve residential and community therein” is the statement of purpose for the Leavenworth Neighborhood Association.  For further information from this group go to: http://www.LNAOmaha.org
